· MYTH – “Montanans want this”
o TRUTH – Millions of dollars from out-of-state have poured into Montana to force CI-128 into our state. Gov. Pritzker of Illinois donated a half million, and much more came from California, and other liberal areas [i]
· MYTH – “This won’t change our laws”
o TRUTH – This will change our State Constitution. Not only will our laws change, but this will be the measure by which all current, and future, laws are determined.
· MYTH – “CI-128 will protect women’s rights”
o TRUTH – If CI-128 passes, per Section 36:3, women who are killed or injured during their abortions will lose the right to legal recourse.
· MYTH – “Late-term abortions don’t happen”
o TRUTH – Every single day, abortionists perform late-term abortions. Nurses and abortionists have testified to this truth, and babies are prone to living through this cruel dismemberment and have shared their stories.[ii]
· MYTH – “This has nothing to do with gender change”
o TRUTH – Abortion and “gender change” work hand in hand. Per Section 36:3, this opens the door for legal interpretation that includes a biological male desiring to be pregnant, and Section 4a furthers that by enshrining “pregnant patient”, instead of “woman”, or “female” into the constitution regarding pregnancy, which is also consistent with the Statement of Purpose and Implication.
· MYTH – “It’s a DOCTOR, not an ‘abortionist’”
o TRUTH – According to CI-128, abortions don’t need to be done by a licensed physician. Sections 36:2 and 4b both indicate a “health care professional”, which is not actually defined by any professional license or certification, nor is this a position that receives any oversight.
· MYTH – “The text of CI-128 doesn’t say anything about sex trafficking, so that won’t be affected/included”
o TRUTH – Section 36:3 provides cover for any predators to bring their victim to an abortion clinic, no questions asked.
· MYTH – “This says ‘before fetal viability’, so CI-128 won’t legalize late-term abortions”
o TRUTH – Section 36:2 states that abortions will be legalized if a “health care provider” – which isn’t defined (and therefore, could be anything from a podiatrist to a counselor) can make a determination that an abortion is “necessary”, at any point in the pregnancy, right up until & including the moment of birth. Note; this is not necessarily to protect the “life of the mother”, but also the “health”, which is not defined, and could include such things as stress (‘I’m too stressed to have a baby now’). [iii]
